Preferred AlternativeBased on the recommendation of the USACOE’s Lake Jesup Restoration Project, the results of the public hearing, and local input from regional and local governments as well as the concerned community, Alternative 3 was selected as the Preferred Alternative. Alternative 3 not only meets current design criteria for wider travel lanes and shoulders widths, the proposed bridge has the design allows flexibility of future expansion to four lanes with minimal reconstruction. Furthermore, this option would allow for partial removal of the existing causeway so as to help restore the natural hydraulic connection between the St. Johns River and Lake Jesup. The Preferred Alternative (Alternative 3) would enhance the ecology of the river and the lake’s ecosystem over time. |
