Overview

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is sponsoring the environmental analysis for the alternatives on I-25 through Pueblo. The previous study utilized an open community process to develop a plan for the New Pueblo Freeway that respected the traditions and trends of the Pueblo community. Through a series of open houses, workshops and regular Community Working Group meetings, the voice of the people of Pueblo has been heard. The EIS is continuing the open community process. The following is a summary of recent public events.

Neighborhood Solutions Workshops

The New Pueblo Freeway Environmental Process requires that potential impacts to parks be identified for each alternative and recommendations made to avoid, minimize and/or mitigate those impacts. During the refinement of the alternatives, public meetings will be held with neighborhoods and businesses to discuss the best mitigation and improvements for the parks adjacent to I-25.

The Neighborhood Solutions Workshops are your opportunity to contribute ideas and to voice your hopes and concerns for your neighborhood and regional parks.

Park Advisory Committee (PAC) Summaries

Park Advisory Committee Members

The build alternatives that the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) are studying for the New Pueblo Freeway could impact the boundaries of Mineral Palace Park and Benedict Park.

In order to plan park mitigation strategies that best fit the community, a Park Advisory Committee (PAC) was formed in December 2003. The committee is a partnership of city, county and state officials, concerned neighbors and park planning specialists. The PAC will work together to explore mitigation options and make recommendations for improvements to the parks. Recommendations from the PAC will be presented at Neighborhood Solutions Workshops.

Open House Events

Open Houses have been held and will continue to be held throughout the New Pueblo Freeway studies. These Open Houses represent an opportunity to talk with the designers about the alternatives and what the difference between them means to your home or business. Some Open Houses will have specific topics focuses on particular neighborhoods or topics.

The recommendations of the Parks Advisory Committee and the Neighborhood Solutions Workshops will be presented at an Open House planned in April of 2004. This will be your opportunity to see the work your neighbors have been doing to plan for mitigation of potential park impacts.

Look for mailings and newspaper announcements for upcoming Open Houses.
