City of Bend, Oregon

Welcome to the Murphy Road Corridor Project Website!

This website covers the second phase of the Murphy Road Corridor Project (started fall 2008) to continue the improvements along Murphy Road between Brookswood Drive to 15th Street. Unfortunately, the City of Bend stopped design work in spring of 2009 due to the slowing economy and a significant decline in revenue for the City.

Future of the Murphy Road Corridor Project
Faced with the reality of the slowing economy, the City is taking steps to reprioritize and spend the limited transportation funds available on a smaller list of projects. At this time, the schedule for moving forward with roadway improvements to Murphy Road is uncertain. Making these roadway improvements will depend on the economic recovery of the area, development activity (which helps to fund transportation projects), and other undefined factors.

Completed
Before this project was put on hold, about 25% of the design improvements were finished.

• The preliminary designs are developed for the roundabouts at Brookswood Drive, Parrell Road, Country Club Road, Brosterhous Road, and 15th Street.
• The preliminary design is completed for the streets and storm drainage systems between the intersections.
• The City has finished preliminary design of the sanitary sewer system and water system along Murphy Road.

The water and sewer improvements are expected to begin construction within the next year. You will be hearing more about those efforts soon.

Not Completed
There are many details of the new roadway design between Brookswood Drive and Parrell Road that need to be resolved, including the location of the street and bridge over the Bend Parkway and the new intersection with 3rd Street. The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) Interchange Area Management Plan (IAMP) for the Bend Parkway should resolve those design details, since this is where both projects will connect. The City and ODOT are working together to seek state and federal funding for a large portion of the improvements within this segment of the corridor.

Between Parrell Road and 15th Street, there are also design details to discuss with the community and property owners, but these will be best addressed in the future when funding is more certain.
Design work on other details hasn’t started. These will eventually include, the location of possible raised medians, left-turn lanes, sidewalk and landscape planting strip configurations.
