Upper Williams Creek Reservoir

One of the benefits of the Southern Delivery System will be a new water storage reservoir offering recreational opportunities in close proximity to Colorado Springs. The SDS Preferred Alternative terminal water reservoir would be located on Upper Williams Creek just 14 miles southeast of downtown Colorado Springs.

The Upper Williams Creek Reservoir would have a water storage capacity of 30,500 acre-feet of water and a water surface area of 760 acres. That’s over ten times the size of Colorado Springs’ Prospect Lake in Memorial Park. Recreation and amenities that would be considered at the reservoir are depicted in the artist’s concept drawing above and include boating, fishing, trails and picnic areas. Colorado Springs Utilities will determine the feasibility of various types of recreation and then work to develop a master plan in partnership with interested parties including the City of Colorado Springs, El Paso County, the Colorado Division of Wildlife and the public.

Upper Williams Creek Reservoir would also benefit our community’s water supply as it allows Colorado Springs to store water during low demand time, such as the winter months, to use during high demand months like the summer. Terminal storage also provides back up water during emergency situations, such as a delivery system outage or drought.
