COLORADO
SPRINGS UTILITIES WELCOMES SDS COMMENT EXTENSION
The Bureau of Reclamation’s decision to extend the public
comment period on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS)
for the Southern Delivery System (SDS) is welcome news, says Project
Director John Fredell.
“The Southern Delivery System is extremely important to the
future of Colorado Springs, and the public has shown a great deal
of interest in the project,” Fredell said. “Encouraging
public comment is consistent with the approach we have taken throughout
this process. And we hope members of the public will take advantage
of the extra time to submit their comments and show their support.”
The Bureau of Reclamation announced Monday that it has extended
the public comment period on the Draft EIS for the Southern Delivery
System by 45 days to June 13.
In welcoming the extension, Fredell noted that Colorado Springs
Utilities also supported the early release of the technical background
documents that the Bureau issued in advance of its February 29 release
of the Draft EIS. With the additional 45 days, the public will have
a total of four and a half months for review and commenting.
“The Southern Delivery System pipeline will provide water
that is absolutely essential to the future of Colorado Springs,”
Fredell said. “We encourage the public to study what we’ve
proposed. The Southern Delivery System is a cost effective, environmentally
responsible and dependable way to deliver water we need for our
future. We need the Southern Delivery System. Our future depends
on it.”
