Alternative 1:   No Action Alternative

“No action” refers to the fact that there would be no action required by Reclamation. It does not mean Colorado Springs would take no action to develop future water supplies. If Reclamation decides to take no action, each participant would independently develop other water supplies in response to projected demands. Colorado Springs plans to divert water from the Arkansas River near Florence and convey it to and store it in a new storage reservoir near Colorado Springs. One major drawback to this alternative is that Colorado Springs would not be able to store water used by the SDS in Pueblo Reservoir, which means it would not be able to take advantage of its significant investment in the Fryingpan-Arkansas project including Pueblo Reservoir. Fountain and Security would expand ground water use, and Pueblo West would develop an independent intake from the Arkansas River.
